Fern Creek operates on the unceded, stolen territories of the Hul'qumi'num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples, the rightful knowledge keepers of these lands. I am a settler here and working to unlearn internalized colonialism.
My name is Helena, welcome.
I am here to walk with you through conversations that take courage.
I am curious about neuroscience and Narrative Therapy allows me to sit with complex presenting problems in wholistic and non-pathologizing ways.
I love what I do — I look forward to getting to know you.
origins
I began Fern Creek Counselling in Nelson, on Sinixt Territory, in August 2022, after practicum and supervision with my mentor and Narrative Therapist Sarah Beth Hughes. Prior to counselling, I taught Grade 6, 7 , 8, and 9 and was a school counsellor.
I still work with clients in the Kootenays as an online practitioner and would love to work with you on Zoom no matter where you live. I currently work in person on Salt Spring Island, land of Hul'qumi'num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples, so if you are here too — please come hang out in my office!
Fern Creek Counselling is named after combining the two streets I grew up on, Fernwood Road and Bullock Creek.
Ferns are ancient, lore-rich, resilient, mysterious plants that show us the power of adaptability and enduring power. (Their “seeds” can also make you invisible, should you need).
My work is influenced by Carl Jung, Gabor Mate, and Indigenous Matriarchs of many nations, like the Wet’suwet’en, Gitxsan, Toltec, Metis, and Ojibwa.
I am currently supervised by Narrative Therapist and researcher Michael Towers.
